Located in Northwestern Minnesota Becker County has many great lakes. These waters provide a valuable resource for the residents of this region. Detroit Lakes has benefited and evolved from the tourism provided by lake recreation. A lot of smaller communities are popping up from the micro economies created by the beautiful lakes.  White Earth Lake has some unique adventures and outdoor rec. Some resorts provide year round amenities. There are great fishing, swimming, and Hiking recreational opportunities in the warm months. Ice fishing, snowmobiling, and cross country skiing in the winter. The Fish Species are diverse as well. Musky can be caught in a few lakes including Detroit Lakes. Trout are present in several lakes including Bad Medicine Lake. A person who likes the outdoors can never get board.The Lakes in the western part of the county or near population are generally less pristine and clear. Becker County is where the prairie and farmers meet trees and lumberjacks. Through maps and satellites we can see the ever encroachment of farms into the wetlands. The destruction of forests for homes. We need to continue to raise awareness of our resource degradation. Try to keep these resources productive and clean for future generations.
